Fashion Challenge Friday!

A new Friday challenge from the Salsa Blog! Cut your kid loose in their closet and let them come up with the Friday fashion! Okay, in our case, this was done on Thursday night, for fun, since Pre-K sets limits on what is appropriate attire for school (uniform). Here's this week's ensemble from our fashionista... can't wait to see the other entries...

Update: We seem to have some technical difficulties with our original photo post, so here's an older photo, but a great photo of personal toddler style, don't you think? We'll try again next week!

More Skating Lessons...

I really can't believe how much progress the class has made already. It's amazing how quickly kids can learn how to skate with 1/2 hour of instruction and 1/2 hour of practice, just once a week. We're supposed to practice on our own (we're provide with free passes for public skating sessions) but Camille and I rarely make it. (Okay, by rarely, I mean we've made it once... the week they didn't have class because of a sled hockey tournament.) But we do the best we can. So, on with the show and tell!

Camille and her new friend, Elizabeth are ready to hit the ice!

It's always good to have a "buddy"!

I just thought this shot was really, really cute!

A Surprise visit from Uncle Matt!

Uncle Matt and Aunt Brigit surprised us this weekend by coming for a visit! It was great to see them. They live in upstate NY, about 6 hours from here so we don't get to see them often. It was a nice surprise. We enjoyed it, and we know Zayde enjoyed seeing them too!

Uncle Matt, Julia and Camille take a dip in hotel pool.

Julia and Camille... bathing beauties...

Sean is a paddles around the pool.
He is an athletic kid with lots of energy!

We had a really fun weekend and it was sad to see everyone go home!

Family Foto Fun Friday is back! We haven't participated in a while, not because I haven't wanted to, but because, for one reason or another, we just haven't been able to. This week's theme is "My Former Years" (meaning "me" as in Faye, the blog author, not Camille). And, of course, if you're a blogger too and you'd like to participate in the fun, just click the blue box below and it will take you to my friend Diana's blog:

Here's my photos, the ones I have scanned in. I know Diana used a lot of school photos. My mother still has all of mine at her house. I'll have to get some of mine from her... one of these days! I was able to dig these up from some old scrapbooks.

Maybe age 4 or 5 here?
Not sure on this one... looking at my teeth (0r the lack of, we're probably 6 or 7)

Banquet - I was a cheerleader for my brother's football team, but I would have rather played football! I was 9 in this photo.

OHHH!!!! I am SOOOO EXCITED!!!! (Can you tell?) 10 little ballerinas have begun practicing for their recital! And it's going to be REALLY great! The date is June 13th, but that's the only thing I'm going to say. Ms. Michelle, the girl's ballet teacher, put up a poster with the costumes, but the poster has photos of ALL of the costumes for ALL of the classes and she's not reveiling which costume is for which class... not until April. Judging from the music, I think I can figure it out, but it's a bit more puzzling for the four-year-old's, I imagine!

More later...

Craft Day

Camille came home from school on Thursday with 104^ F fever. Actually, it was kind of scary, because that night, she got up to 105 despite fever reducing medication. We doubted it was the flu (no other symptoms besides the fever) and called the pediatrician who told us there was a virus going around and to expect the high temps to last for about 72 hours. Great...

Fortunately, Camille was feeling a bit better today, but we thought it was in her best interest to keep things 'low key' so we decided to have a craft day. Earlier in the week, Camille went to the Natural History Museum with her friend Hannah. The girls each found a big rock and brought it home. The Good Night Show on Sprout had a craft on making a pet rock and Camille begged to make one with the rock she had found. I thought this day would be the perfect time to do it. I also had a kit to make a chick out of a little pot. Both crafts were fun and turned out great!

We're ready to go! Let's open the paint!

Such focus and concentration...

EVERY craft needs glitter!

The finishing touches...
Tah dah!
And didn't this chick turn out cute? The ONLY thing I did was tie the purple bow... Camille assembled the rest of the kit herself. She's a very crafty kid!

What Happened To The Happy Stuff?

I have a preference for posting the happy stuff. So the lack of postings could be a clue to our regular reader that things around here have been, well, less than happy. For starters, Mike's dad fell up steps while entering the building of the gym this week and broke his foot! Even worse, it's his right foot, so he can't drive! Even worse still, the type of fracture is called a lisfranc fracture and, although the orthopedic surgeon said he would try to see if it would heal with the just a cast, he's not optimistic. Mike's dad might still need to have surgery on his foot. We'll find out at his follow-up appointment on March 9th. We'd ALL like to see him avoid the surgery. So this injury creates a lot of problems, not only for Mike's dad, but for us as a family unit. It has not been a fun week, nor is the outlook on the next 6 to 8 weeks fun on that front.

Camille is doing well. As I write this she is upstairs napping after another successful ice skating session. No doubt about it, she loves to ice skate. Earlier this week she asked Mimi if she wanted to come up to our house to ice skate. She said "Mimi, do you know how to ice skate? I can teach you!" (Mind you this is coming from a child who has been on the ice less than 1/2 a dozen times) What a character!

So, I'm happy it's March. But, we're supposed to get a big snow storm tonight... I'm certainly not happy about that!
